Installing the Leadfeeder tracking script directly on your website

If you don't use a standard CMS, paste the tracking script directly into your site's HTML.

Written by Ruthie Keith

Paste the Leadfeeder tracking script into your website's HTML, just before the closing </head> tag. If you can use Google Tag Manager, we recommend installing the tracking script with Google Tag Manager instead.

Before you start: You need access to your website's HTML files. If you aren't familiar with HTML, ask your web team for help, since a mistake can break your site.

The script needs to be on every page. Usually you add it to a shared head template. If your site uses static HTML pages, add it to each page.

How to add the tracking script to your HTML

  1. In Leadfeeder, click the Settings gear icon at the bottom left, then go to Company > Website Tracker > Tracker script and click Copy script.

  2. Open the file that contains your <head> code and find the closing </head> tag.

  3. Paste the tracking script just before </head>. Check that it matches your Leadfeeder settings exactly, since a typo can stop the script from firing.

  4. Save your files and deploy them to your live site.

  5. Check your hostname rules. Leadfeeder sets them from the website details you gave at signup, so make sure they match every domain you want to track. Go to Account > Traffic filtering > Hostname rules to see which websites have the tracking script.

If a website you want to track isn't listed, install the tracking script on it and add its URL as a new hostname rule. See The Web Visitors traffic rules explained.

New companies take up to an hour to appear in Web Visitors. Until then, your settings show Not installed and Not receiving data.
