The Leadfeeder traffic rules explained

Set hostname, country and page URL rules to control which visits Leadfeeder identifies.

Written by Ruthie Keith

Traffic rules control which visits the Leadfeeder tracking script captures and processes. Set them carefully, since a wrong rule can stop Leadfeeder from identifying companies.

Before you start: Only Admin users can change hostname and country rules. Only our support team can change page URL rules.

How to check and edit your traffic rules

  1. Click the Settings gear icon at the bottom left.

  2. Open the Account tab and click Traffic Filtering. You'll see the traffic filtering rules for the selected account, with tabs for Hostname rules and Country rules.

Hostname rules

Leadfeeder sets your hostname rules when you sign up. Only change them if your site changes or you run into problems.

When you add the tracking script to a new domain, switch on that hostname under the account where you want to see its visits.

In the example above, the tracking script tracks companya.com and app.companya.com, the only two hostnames switched on.

To track file downloads, such as PDFs, also add the domain where the files are hosted as a hostname. See Leadfeeder tracking script advanced settings.

You can only add hostnames (domain names), not IP addresses.

Country rules

Country rules set which visits Leadfeeder identifies based on the visitor's country. Use them to see visits only from certain countries, or to exclude visits from certain countries.

The rules apply to the visitor's location, not the company's. You may still see a company located in a filtered country if the visit came from elsewhere and the company's nearest verified office is in that country. To filter by visitor location, create a custom feed.

  • Include countries: select Include only, then add and save each country one at a time. Multiple included countries work as OR. For example, visits from Finland or the United Kingdom.

  • Exclude countries: select Exclude, then add and save each country one at a time. Multiple excluded countries work as AND. For example, no visits from Aruba and no visits from Hong Kong.

You can add up to 100 countries.

Page URL rules

Only our support team can add or edit page URL rules. Contact them via chat or at support@leadfeeder.com.

Page URL rules set which visits Leadfeeder shows based on the pages visited. Use them to see only visits to certain pages, or to exclude visits to certain pages.

Include rules: each URL is added separately. Multiple included page paths work as OR. For example, visits to /blog, /product or /pricing pages.

In this example, Leadfeeder only shows visits to companya.com/blog or pages containing /product. Visits to companya.com/pricing/ aren't included.

Exclude rules: multiple excluded page paths work as AND. For example, visits that aren't to /login or /partners pages. Leadfeeder only excludes the listed pages, not the whole visit, if the visitor also viewed other pages.

In this example, Leadfeeder shows all visits except those to pages containing /blog/ or /sign_in/.
