Outbound link tracking shows you when a visitor clicks a link that leaves your website. You see which partner site, booking page, email address or phone number a company clicked before leaving.
What Web Visitors records
Web Visitors records a click on:
a link to an external website
an email link (mailto:)
a phone link (tel:)
Links to your own website and its subdomains count as internal, so Web Visitors doesn't record them.
Switch it on
New accounts have outbound link tracking on by default. If you have an existing account, switch it on yourself:
Go to Settings > Company > Website Tracker and open the Advanced tracking tab.
Turn on the Outbound Link Tracking toggle.
To stop recording clicks to specific websites, add them under Hostnames to exclude from outbound tracking. Web Visitors already skips the hostnames in your traffic filters.
Before you switch it on, update your privacy policy and cookie banner to cover outbound clicks. You can start from Web Visitors Sample Wording for Your Privacy Policy. We recommend leaving it off on sites with user-generated content or many third-party links.
For all settings, see Web Visitors Tracking Script Advanced Settings.
See outbound clicks in a company's visits
Open a company and look at its visit details. You'll find outbound clicks under the page where the visitor clicked them, next to form submissions and file downloads, labelled Outbound click. Click one to see the Title (the link text), Destination (where the link goes) and Type (for example, Link).
Build a custom feed from outbound clicks
Add the Outbound click filter to a custom feed to find companies that clicked a specific link.
Choose is any to find every company that clicked an outbound link in the feed's date range. To match a specific destination (a URL, email address or phone number), use is, is not, contains, does not contain, begins with or ends with.
A few ideas:
Outbound click contains calendly.com: companies that clicked through to book a meeting
Outbound click contains your partner's domain: companies you sent on to a reseller or partner
Outbound click contains your sales email address: companies that clicked to email your sales team
See all filters in List of Available Custom Feed Filters, and how to combine them in Understanding Advanced Filtering (AND/OR Logic) in Custom Feeds.
