The Web Visitors Tracker can be added directly to the source code of your website if needed.

If you have the option to install the tracker with Google Tag Manager we recommend that you do so. If you don't have Google Tag Manager on your site, don't worry, you can add the Tracker script directly to your HTML.

A friendly warning, if you aren't familiar with HTML, or how your website is built you should ask your team to help! Unexpected errors can have a big impact on your site if you accidentally change something you shouldn't have while trying to add the Web Visitors Tracker.

Another point that is very important to keep in mind when installing the Web Visitors tracking script directly to the HTML of your site is this: the script has to be set up for all of your pages.

Typically this is done by putting the script in a head template that is used on every page. However, if each page on your site is static HTML you will need to make sure the Web Visitors Tracker code is inserted onto every page individually.

Check how to add the tracking script directly to your website template by step guidelines below.

STEP 1: Navigate to your Web Visitors Tracker script. You can either click here, or find your Company settings by clicking on the gear ⚙️ icon at the top right of the app and then choosing the Company tab. Then select Website Tracker > Tracker Script. Use the Copy to Clipboard button to copy the script.

STEP 2: In your code editor of choice open the file that contains your <head> code.

Remember if you don't use the same head on each page you will need to insert the code on each page of your site.

Locate the closing head tag </head>.

STEP 3: Paste the Web Visitors Tracker script before the closing head tag. Double-check to make sure it is exactly as shown in your Leadfeeder settings, simple typos can prevent the script from firing.

STEP 4: Make sure you save your files and send them to your production environment.

STEP 5: As the final step, you'll need to check your Hostname rules. Hostname rules are defined automatically based on the website information you provided during the signup process. It's always best to check that they are correct and match with the domains you want to track in your Leadfeeder account.

Navigate to your Leadfeeder Account settings > Traffic filtering > Hostname rules. You'll be able to see a list of which websites the Web Visitors Tracker is already installed on.

If a website you want to track is not listed, you need to install the Web Visitors Tracker on that website and add the URL as a new hostname rule. You can find out more about Traffic Rules here.

Please note: It can take up to an hour for your new companies to show up in Web Visitors. You will see it as Not installed and Not receiving data in your settings during this wait time.

That's it! Sit back and relax. With everything set up properly on your site and in the Leadfeeder settings, you should begin tracking visiting companies very soon!
